As wrong as it sounds, continue the gig and let someone else (a friend, teacher, grandparent) end up being the bearer of the horrible heart breaking traumatizing news.

It is the worst thing in the entire world to see the expression on your child’s face after you confirm the truth about the Tooth Fairy.

To look at your child and know without them saying a word that they now seeing and thinking of you in an entirely different way.
You are not longer their hero, you are the villain.

You created doubt in your child’s life and mind. From that point on your child, your innocent cute little buddy, will unconsciously or consciously doubt you. There is no longer a certainty in everything you say to them.
You broke a bond and relationship that can never again be obtained.

It takes away part of the happiness of being a child.

Once they realize the Tooth Fairy is not real they start to doubt all of it… …than the Easter Bunny is not real, Santa Clause is not real, even God is not real… …what is real

The sick and twisted moral of the story:

Continue lying to your children, otherwise they may find out you are a liar.
