Posted @withregram • @mgauthorcade How do you get kids interested in reading and writing? How about an author visit from THREE middle grade authors? Shout out to Westmoreland Elementary in Tennessee for a fabulous visit today! I’m in absolute awe of illustrators—check out all of these fantastic concept sketches created by Dion MBD before finalizing the cover of Coyote Queen! Pass pages have arrived...aka my last chance to make changes before I turn this story over to you, my dear readers. Interested in how middle grade literature can be used to explore big issues? Tune in to my conversation with Tanis MacDonald on Midtown Radio Saturday morning at 10am where we'll be discussing all the things––and I'll be reading excerpts from each of my books (including an exclusive sneak peek at Coyote Queen). Today I explored the Royal Ontario Museum. They had a display focusing on the year of the rabbit, and I found this super cool rabbit sculpture made out of mushrooms (check out the second photo for a full explanation of the symbolism)! I loved reading about the Chinese tradition linking rabbits and the moon--I wasn't familiar with this tradition when writing The Rabbit's Gift, so I was especially struck by how similar ideas/concepts can manifest in different ways across countries and cultures. Several years ago, I got a message from my Pitch Wars co-mentor Julie Artz telling me to quick check my inbox because she'd come across a story with turtles and magic and she thought it might be *the one* for us. She was right, and I'm so, so proud to see TURTLES OF THE MIDNIGHT MOON by Maria Jose Fitzgerald publish today. I highly recommend this gorgeous mystery about friendship and belonging. (And, of course, turtles!) Available everywhere books are sold! My daughter just phoned to tell me it’ll be another 1/2 hour before she can get her blood drawn… I’m perfectly okay with that because I just picked up this beauty at my local indie. Posted @withregram • @bellesmiddlegrade Woooooowwww! I LOVED this book so much! This was such a unique story in so many ways. Stopped at a hotel on the way home from highlights to wait out the snow, and I'm still feeling a post-retreat glow. Nothing beats a week filled with great friends, writing, and nature. Thank you @highlightsfound and @mgauthorcade!
