It was a fun surprise to wake up and find an article about COYOTE QUEEN featured in the Cheyenne Post! I'm having so much fun annotating Coyote Queen for the preorder grand prize giveaway--I'm sharing All The Things (personal connections to the story, changes I made before it went to print, craft tips, and more!) THE WOLF'S CURSE has been out in the world for two years today; even though I'm getting ready to launch book three and revising book four, this one is always going to have a special place in my heart. It's the book that made me a published author, and I had more fun writing it than perhaps any other book I've written. If you haven't read it, you might enjoy the snarky narrator, who is an invisible great white wolf trying to convince a young boy to take her job (as a grim reaper). If you have read it, I hope you enjoyed it, and I'd like to thank you for your support--without you, my writing career never would have gotten off the ground, and I wouldn't have been able to continue doing the work I love so much. Thank you. Creative friends, do you struggle to stay motivated in the face of rejection and disappointment? You’re not alone! Share your favorite motivational tips in the comments so everyone can benefit! Heading off to speak to the UW English department about writing for kids (along with author @mypbjam!) A giant thank you to everyone who has preordered a copy of Coyote Queen! If you haven't already, be sure to fill out the preorder form in my bio to receive a free sticker, bookmark, and (if needed) a signed bookplate––and to be entered in the grand prize drawing! This photo of 9-year-old Jessica's broken arm was a major inspiration for one of the scenes in COYOTE QUEEN; while my injury was a result of my own clumsiness, the events on the way to and at the first hospital (yes, first!) after Fud's broken arm are based on my own experience, and they highlight how abusers are often compelled to control everything, and everyone, around them (this behavior can be physical, but it can also be verbal/emotional, sexual, digital, financial, etc.). I'm delighted to share a blurb from an author I adore (if you haven't already read ALONE, you are missing out!). Megan E. Freeman, thank you for speaking to the heart of COYOTE QUEEN! ❤️ Another real-life bit of inspiration for COYOTE QUEEN! In the story, Fud and her mother talk about a beat-up Willy's Jeep they called The Miracle (because it had so many miles it was a miracle it ever started). The vehicle was inspired by one of the vehicles we had when I was a kid; I have no idea how many miles it had, but I do remember how much fun it was riding with the top off and the wind whipping through my hair!
